MPI for Pregnant and Pediatric Patients
This MPI lecture and hands-on workshop is designed to provide clinical insight into treating pregnant, postpartum, and pediatric patients as a chiropractor. It will provide attendees with a basic understanding of contraindications to care, management of common conditions, adjustive techniques, rehab exercises for pregnancy and postpartum, and nutritional recommendations for these special populations.

Prerequisites
It is recommended that participants have prior introduction to Motion Palpation (MPI) technique for palpation of the pelvis, lumbar, and thoracic spine as well as MPI side posture kick-pull and side posture drop adjustments. This course will focus on the application and modification of Motion Palpation techniques to the pregnant and pediatric populations.

Objectives
By the end of the lecture, attendees will be able to:
- Identify red flags, contraindications, and reasons for referral in pediatric and pregnant patients
- Apply modifications to adjusting and rehab techniques to accommodate pregnant, post-partum, and pediatric patients
- Make basic nutritional recommendations for pediatric and pregnant patients
- Appreciate the role chiropractic physicians play in the treatment of pregnant, postpartum, and pediatric patients

- Pregnancy nutrition and vitamin supplementation
- Breastfeeding - benefits and recommendations; appropriate referrals to lactation consultants
- Nutrition throughout growth and development
10:30 – 1:30 Treating the Pregnant Patient (Workshop)
- Adjusting techniques and table modifications
- Intro to Webster Technique
- Appropriate rehab exercises
1:30 – 2:30 Lunch
2:30 - 5:00 Postpartum Rehab (Workshop)
- Exercise progressions for post-partum rehab with a focus on abdominals, diaphragm, and pelvic floor
- Conservative management of diastasis recti
- Discussion of appropriate referrals for pelvic floor therapy
Day 2
8:30 - 10:00 Adjusting Infants and Children (Lecture)
- Comparisons of newborn, 2 month, and 2 year old spinal anatomy
- Observational assessments
- Motion assessments of the spine
- Adjusting positioning modifications for infants and children
10:00 - 1:00 Adjusting Infants and Children (Workshop)
- Infant and child spinal assessment
- Infant and child adjustment techniques
- Instructor demonstration on sample patient(s)

Dr. Lindsay Mumma
Lindsay Mumma, DC, DNSP, is the owner of Triangle Chiropractic and Rehabilitation Center in Raleigh, NC, a multidisciplinary practice she opened in 2012 after graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic with the Clinical Excellence Award. She teaches for the Motion Palpation Institute and moveMentors. Her private practice focuses on rehabilitative chiropractic care across the lifespan and with a specific focus on prenatal and postpartum health.
