DNS – Yoga Specific Rehabilitation Course “Parts II and III” – Victoria 2018

In this course you will learn how to practice yoga safely, prevent common yoga injuries, and apply functional rehabilitation through the yoga asanas. It is geared to yoga therapists, yoga instructors, DNS students, and advanced yoga practitioners. This courses will assist yoga instructors and therapists in making yoga instruction safer and more effective through the combination with DNS strategies, and will also provide sound training for those clinicians who have wanted to include yoga-based exercises in their treatment protocols with instruction from experienced yoga clinicians. There will be a general introduction to yoga and DNS; basic yoga positions focusing on alignment and support functions; indications, contra-indications, modifications for patients; and Pranayma. Each part of the course has its own focuses:
DNS Yoga 2: Pelvic girdle; hip, knee and foot centration and differentiation; Pranayma.
DNS Yoga 3: Shoulder girdle and scapulo-humeral rhythm; shoulder, elbow and hand centration; inversions; Pranayma.
Note: There are no prerequisites to attend this course.
General Course Objectives
- Feet and hand support relationships, principles of skeletal symmetry, muscle balance/ imbalances.
- Watching for functional joint centration during static and dynamic loading.
- Working in closed/open kinetic chains.
- Correcting dysfunctional patterns with coordinated co-contraction of antagonists.
- Applying all these principles to the specific groups of yoga asanas –standing poses, sitting poses, forward bends.
About Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS)
The nervous system establishes programs that control human posture, movement and gait. This ‘motor control’ is largely established during the first critical years of life. Therefore, the “Prague School” emphasizes neurodevelopmental aspects of motor control in order to assess and restore dysfunction of the locomotor system and associated syndromes.
The “Prague School” of Rehabilitation and Manual Medicine was established by key neurologists/physiatrists, all of whom were giants in the 20th Century rehabilitation movement: Professors’ Vaclav Vojta, Karel Lewit, Vladimir Janda, and Frantisek Vele.
Based upon the groundbreaking neurodevelopmental and rehabilitation principles described by these mentors, Pavel Kolar has organized the next generation of clinical protocols that are designed to restore and stabilize locomotor function. This new rehabilitation approach is called Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS).
About the Instructor
Martina Jezkova has been involved in the international instruction program of renowned Prague School myoskeletal techniques including Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization according to Kolar (DNS) since 2002. She has been studied extensively with Professor Karel Lewit, an international authority in manual medicine for more than 5 decades and the founder of the internationally renowned “Prague School of Manual Medicine & Rehabilitation” as well as with Prof. Pavel Kolar, the founder of the Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization.
Martina has completed an 8-week course in Reflex Locomotion according to Vojta and became certified Reflex Locomotion practitioner. She has over 10 years of clinical experience studying from and working with Professor Pavel Kolar, becoming highly skilled in his techniques. She has also completed other “ Prague School“ courses such as Klapp crawling based on development kinesiology and Diagnosis and Therapy according to Ludmila Mojžíšová.
She is active staff member of the Rehabilitation Clinic, University Hospital Motol, 2nd Medical Faculty, Charles University in Prague, where Professor Kolar serves as the head of the Rehabilitation Clinic and also of the Physiotherapy School. She serves as instructor in rehabilitation to both medical and physiotherapy students at Charles University. Martina has instructed Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) according to Kolar in the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, England, Slovenia, USA and Australia.
