This course will cover Lower Quarter - both Fundamental and Advanced Techniques.
Being the originator of the concept of neurodynamics in physiotherapy, Michael Shacklock has expanded the concept to link with the musculoskeletal system. Based on his innovative internationally acclaimed best selling text (Clinical Neurodynamics), these widely hosted hands-on courses have been running for 20 years and are offered globally, in the USA, Canada, UK, Scandinavia and Nordic regions, Middle East, Europe, India, South America and Australia at universities, elite sports centers and hospitals. These practical hands-on courses take the therapist from the old concepts of neural tension to a new concept of neurodynamics. Shacklock’s neurodynamic concept is presented clearly and methodically and offers the clinician new techniques for diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal problems with a neural component. The Shacklock concept helps the therapist select and perform new diagnostic and treatment techniques without provoking symptoms and progresses from the highly restricted patient to the athlete. About the Instructor
Michael received his graduate qualification at the Auckland School of Physiotherapy, New Zealand, in 1980. He worked in public hospitals in the medical, surgical, paediatrics, orthopaedics, geriatrics, intensive care and burns areas around New Zealand before being employed in private practices, treating spinal and sports injuries in Nelson with Michael Monaghan and Auckland with Margaret Franklin. In 1985 he moved to Adelaide, Australia, working at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and private practices around Adelaide. He completed a Graduate Diploma in Advanced Manipulative Therapy in 1989 and converted this to a Masters degree at the University of South Australia in 1993. He was awarded a Fellow of the Australian College of Physiotherapists for his monograph and international best seller text book, Clinical Neurodynamics, Elsevier, Oxford, 2005.
In addition to his neurodynamics book, he has published two other books, Moving in on Pain (Elsevier) and Biomechanics of the Nervous System: Breig Revisited. He also authored, co-authored and mentored numerous research studies, editorials, commentaries and clinical papers in international peer reviewed journals articles which have garnered many international awards, including Invited Professor of the Faculty of Medicine, Barcelo University, Buenos Aires (see academic activities on ResearchGate). He is a reviewer for, and is on the International Advisory Board of, Manual Therapy journal, United Kingdom. His special interests are neurodynamics, measurement of mechanical function of the nervous system, pain and the musculoskeletal function. He continues to give invited presentations and workshops at conferences, elite sporting and sports medicine facilities, universities, hospitals and seminar hosts around the world.
